Besides “Construction,” What Season is it?
We all know it’s construction season, (that season between late winter and summer) however did you know? I’m all about bringing you strange and interesting information. It’s also Yard Sale season! Many places in the world have small-town yard sales in the spring and summer. A few have flea markets/swap meets all through the year, climate permitting.
Our American yard sales are kind of unique, we pass on many items that our family doesn’t particularly need anymore, to other folks who “Might” want them. Places in Europe have “junking days", where people put their stuff out on the curb and anyone can take them. We are a bit more structured, we put out signs and put prices on most everything. Unless it is “just take it away!”
Some basic rules for those who will set out their stuff: Try to keep books or patterns Etc. facing the same way. (I know people pick things up and turn it around, NAUGHTY!) And CLEAN the cobwebs, & last year’s field dirt off things. We don’t want your clutter/dirt, we have enough of our own. Prices should be CLEAR! Enough nagging, many years ago we lived in a large valley. Folks got together a few times a year to have swap meets, or as several people know them “White Elephant” sales. (Has anyone ever seen this rare white elephant?) The folks in this valley used to bring this poor beaten-up mobile, Bar B.Q. pit. This thing went around the valley for many years. It became a running joke, “Ok who gets it this year?” FUN!
We around here have our Annual County-wide yard sale, which is nice. You can drive all over the county looking at other people’s stuff. When Linda was doing E-Bay we used to go looking for all kinds of strange, and wonderful things. The same with My bookstore, everyone NEEDS something that somebody else has! It’s the time to go find it IF the folks will bargain or dicker, negotiate? (Some other word that I can’t think of.) Or just pay the VERY low price, you know you want it, right? So go, seek, look through everyone else’s stuff. Enjoy, drink water if it is hot.
