Bulldogs At State Track Meet

MT43 News Sports Reporter

The 2024 track season concluded with a two-day meet on May 24th & 25th at the Laurel Sports Complex. Eleven ladies and seven gentlemen earned their way to the state meet, performing well, with many establishing either their personal or season records.

The Lady Bulldogs earned the bronze trophy finishing third to the Huntley Project and Loyola-Sacred Heart teams with a total of 70.33 points. Team members score points and receive individual medals by placing in the top six at State. This two-day meet requires the sprinters to also run preliminary races, earning a spot in the finals by establishing a top ten time; these extra races make juggling a full schedule difficult at times.

Senior Havyn Vandenacre ended her high school career with a championship run in the 100-meter hurdles. Not only did she win, but she established a new Broadwater High School record of 14.79. Havyn added two runner-up finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and the javelin throw, scoring 26 points on her own. The future University of Providence Argo finishes high school a two-time state champ, earning 10 individual medals and a relay medal during her four trips to state.

The members of the 4x100-meter relay (Reese Wolfgram, Havyn Vandenacre, Aspen Slyker, and Kaitlyn Noyes) broke their own school record for the second time this season to place 3rd finishing in 49.82. Freshman Kyla Meissner established new blistering fast PRs in both the 1600 & 3200-meter runs to finish second at both distances.

Sophomore Holly Newman landed her PR in the long jump placing 4th. She ran her PR in the 100-meter hurdles in the preliminaries, only to surpass that time in the finals to finish 7th. Senior Reese Wolfgram hopped, skipped, and jumped her career best in the triple jump to finish 7th.

The men’s team represented well at the state meet as well. Junior Deegan Mattson and freshman Jim Tew both competed in four events with their best finishes just off the podium with 7th & 8th. Distance runner junior Nolan Flynn finished 12th & 13th in the mile and two mile, respectively.
