“Runaway Accident”
An unfortunate accident occurred the latter part of last week near Toston wherein Lawrence Osborn and his automobile, two men, and a team were the participants. Coming up a hill, Osborn met Emil Olson and Ralph Moore, both of whom work on the Six-Mile Ranch, and their team became unmanageable, resulting in an overturned wagon and a badly fractured ankle for Olson. In the wagon was a coil of old barb wire about the size of an auto tire and in the upset, this landed around Moore’s neck. Aside from a few scratches he was not hurt. Osborn picked up the wounded man and took him to Toston where he received medical attendance. It was an unfortunate occurrence, yet no fault of Osborn’s, as he was driving slow up the hill with the expectation that he might meet a team, and none regrets it more than he does.

“Townsend Rotary Looses Babyhood”
W.O. Zirnstein, county extension agent for Broadwater and Lewis & Clark counties, spoke to members and guests of the Townsend Rotary Club Tuesday night, giving some of the history and details of operation and purpose of the extension service. Major activities being water conservation, soil conservation, reseeding of land to crested wheat grass, 4-H club work and home demonstration club work.
Mr. Zirnstein stated that agriculture was still Montana’s most important industry far exceeding any other industry as a producer of income from its products.
Two committees were appointed by the chair, one, whose members are Dr. F.P. Nash, W.L. Emmert and R.G. Glatz to look into the possibility of a Rotary float to enter the parade in the Fourth of July celebration, and the other committee to send to Polson, the newest Rotary baby club, the things baby clubs receive on charter night.
When Townsend Rotary Club began the baby club on charter night, November 14, 1939, it received a baby kit with proper instructions for its use from Terry, ‘till then the baby club, and Townsend, in turn, was to give the kit to the next baby club, which is Polson. Polson will observe charter night next week, June 28. An effort will be made to send a delegation to the event.
Jack Zimmerman will be the official pianist for the club and made his first appearance at this meeting. Guests of the club besides Mr. Zirnstein were R.E. Menghini, Bob Steele, W.A. Reames.
