Unhappy with Winston Dump Site Changes
My name is Faithann Linkenbach I’m a resident of Winston. It’s come to my attention that the Winston and Townsend dump have recently made changes that folks in the community are pretty frustrated over, and rightly so.
The Winston dump has cut their drop-off times to two days per week, being weekends. This is really frustrating for those who work weekends and can’t make it during the hours they are open to the public.
They have also eliminated the “giveaway pile”. I do understand that policy was likely put into place for a reason but in all the time I’ve lived here I never once seen the pile become an issue or a “mess”. Folks would leave decent items that they no longer needed and someone would come along and take the items home and put them to use, such as kids' toys, unused grass seed bags, etc.
Many other dumps in the area (Elliston, Montana City, Logan) actually promote and support the recycling of good items that folks can reuse.
As taxpayers in Broadwater country it is unfair that instead of trying to better our waste system, it’s been heavily restricted and kept from us. If you want more commentary from other community members you can check the “Townsend classifieds” page on Facebook. There is a post where people are discussing their frustrations with the new changes. I don’t have all the information on the changes to the Townsend dump but I did read about others frustrations with it on that post.
Thank you for reading.
