Saturday, April 27th was a cool and mostly rainy day for a track meet in East Helena. Many spectators donned winter coats and umbrellas, while the athletes tended to keep to their team tents between events to stay dry. Additionally, the officials were having issues with the timing system, which led to a late start, slow heats, and an unexpected change in the schedule of events. This delay was unnerving for those athletes anxious to return in time for the evening’s big event, the Broadwater High Prom.
The Lady Bulldogs placed fourth among the teams with 53 points. As it was either the 2nd or 3rd meet of the week for our Bulldogs, some limited the number of events entered. In addition, a few ladies are currently dealing with some injuries, as was the case last week with the gentlemen.
Despite the conditions, senior Reese Wolfgram had a standout day. She placed 4th in the triple jump while adding two 8th place finishes in the 100-meter dash and long jump. The cool weather usually is a benefit to the distance athletes and they did not disappoint. Junior Memphys Meier looked strong placing tenth in the 800-meter run with her season’s best. Fellow junior Kaelyn Sangray is the lone Bulldog who can say she has PR-ed every meet this season with her efforts in the 3200-meter run. Improving every week, she broke the 13-minute mark for the first time on Saturday. Fellow distance runner and junior Abby Wickens clocked her best times in both the 800 & 3200-meter runs.
