Welcome to STOKE Corner! Carla Amundson STOKE Board Member "STOKE Corner" is an article that will provide news and scheduled activities for our youth of Broadwater County. STOKE (Science, Technology, Outdoors, Knowledge, Entrepreneurship) offers an array of opportunities for our Broadwater County kids. All activities are FREE to participants, except for the 21% Century School Grant which requires a reasonable fee for clay supplies.
Today we introduce Terry Thomas, a retired Helena Art teacher. With over 30 years of teaching many artistic skills, Terry has maintained a profession in his retirement. He has stunning custom pottery and urns at the Helena Artist’s Guild and sells his work throughout Montana. Terry is known as a Master Ceramist. In 2023, Terry along with Teddy Lewis, Director of our Pottery Guild here in Townsend, spearheaded the “Empty Bowls Project” at the Broadwater County Fairgrounds. Four hundred beautiful bowls were made by volunteer ceramists for this event. Each person who paid a donation of $20 could select a bowl followed by a chili-feed.
This STOKE fundraiser earned $1,700 for the many youth programs and received a matching $1700 from Town Pump for the Food Bank. This effort on Terry’s part demonstrates his generous giving to our community and specifically our youth.
Recently, Terry engaged in a workshop for advanced pottery students on how to make lids for their clay Projects. His kind and gentle spirit made for a comfortable learning environment for the kids.
We are announcing the upcoming second annual “Burgers and Bowls Event”! Saturday, April 27 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at The Pottery Guild, 108 North Spruce St in Townsend. Come join us! We look forward to seeing you there!
