Seventh Grader Anders Bakken will compete in the regional Fairfield Basketball Club (FBC) Shooting Challenge to begin May 1st. He is among nearly 50 students signed up to be involved in the program offered through Fairfield High School teacher and Athletic Director Mike Schmidt. Schmidt said in a press release he is trying to encourage more students from all over the state to participate in the challenge.

The challenge, started 21 years ago by Coach Schmidt, as a way to get both boys and girls in local communities to play basketball at an early age. He said his goal was to develop a foundation of consistent basketball skills which would carry into their high school sports activities, according to the FBC website information. Students now enrolled are from Shelby, Fairfield, Greenfield, Frenchtown, Belt, and Superior. The challenge is open to anyone in grades 1-8 and prizes are handed out for different levels of accomplishment. Sign-up ends May 15, 2024.
