Alexander LeDoux, the Bozeman man accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 90 resulting in a head-on crash near Three Forks that killed a young mother, has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide and other charges.
LeDoux, 26, entered the pleas April 16 during his initial appearance in Gallatin County district court in Bozeman. Judge Peter Ohman set bail at $250,000. LeDoux was then jailed in the county detention center. He is due back in court May 21 for an omnibus hearing.
The January 4 crash, about 2:30am, killed Laysa Grewell, 22, a Townsend native living with her fiancé in Belgrade. She was the mother of an infant and reportedly was newly pregnant.
LeDoux was charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, fleeing from a peace officer, and six counts of criminal endangerment. Charging documents allege he drove about 20 miles the wrong way at high speed, going west in the eastbound lanes of the interstate highway.
According to the state highway patrol investigation, Grewell was thrown from her car, a sports utility vehicle, when the crash occurred. She died at the scene. Her vehicle burned. LeDoux was hospitalized in Bozeman with non-life-threatening injuries.
KBZK TV, Bozeman, reported that during a March 26 status hearing, LeDoux’s legal counsel informed the court that he was out of state and asked that he be allowed to make his initial court appearance by video so that he could go to a facility for psychological and chemical dependency treatment. District Judge Andrew Breuner, who originally held the case, denied the request.
