Audrey Martin Biography and Comments for School Board Trustee Election

I have lived in Broadwater County for over five years and am originally from Northwest Montana. The opportunities afforded by my public education allowed me to be the first person in my family to attend college and earn a master's degree. I want to ensure all students have the same opportunity to pursue their passions. As a mom of a student, I have watched the school board struggle, from failing to connect with the community and providing an environment where everyone feels heard and understood to making decisions without thoughtful debate in meetings. With increased property taxes and the implementation of HB 203, Montana's rural public education is forever changed. Townsend needs a trustee who understands not only budgets, policy, and the community but is also not afraid to listen to all perspectives, broker tough decisions, and explain them publicly. My reason for running is this:

• Over 36% of all Property tax dollars go to schools. All Taxpayers have a right to hear and understand the district's needs firsthand. The communities, parents, educators, and students frequently feel disconnected from the school or unwanted at meetings; they ALL need a seat at the table. Educators, extracurricular leaders, and students must have a space to express their needs and frustrations without fearing retaliation.

• With the implementation of Montana House Bill 203 in July 2024, Broadwater County Schools' dynamics will change. We need trustees who will work with students, parents, educators, and the community to achieve the best possible outcomes.

• Students need to have opportunities provided for them to meet their dreams and aspirations, whether in higher education, vocational training, employment, or entrepreneurship. A wide range of educational options must be at the district's forefront of priorities.
