High School Seniors Learn About Elections
Angie Paulsen
Broadwater County Clerk and Recorder
Broadwater County Clerk and Recorder Angie Paulsen visited Broadwater High School’s civics class this past January and aided approximately 47 seniors in registering to vote in this upcoming historical election. She also instructed the class on political parties, and federal, state and county government. Paulsen was carrying out a long-standing tradition to help educate seniors on their civic responsibility to vote and participate in the democratic process, emphasizing the power of one vote. Paulsen’s undergraduate degree in Political Science, with an emphasis on Public Policy and Public Administration, along with her experience working in state and county government, was the catalyst for her sharing her knowledge of bureaucracy and government with Townsend seniors. The class is taught by Lindsey Moldenhauer.
“Mrs. Moldenhauer did a great job prepping the class on topics surrounding political parties, so I asked some questions and expanded the students’ understanding of how the offices of County Government, particularly County Government and County Elected Officials, can affect their everyday lives, from elections, sheriff, roads, and treasurer offices,” according to Paulsen.
Paulsen went on to say that she was pleasantly surprised at the end of each class in which students expressed interest in running for office someday. “One of the highlights after our political and government discussion was to hear students inquire about running for county offices in the future.”
