Broadwater County 1st Responder Appreciation And Community Awareness Event

A Broadwater County 1st Responder Appreciation and Community Awareness Event was held at the Townsend Volunteer Fire Station on Saturday, April 6th, from 9 AM until 1 PM.

The local 1st Responders were represented by the Townsend Fire Department; the Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office; Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks; Motor Carrier Service; Public Health & Human Services (CPR); Broadwater County Search and Rescue; U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement; Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs); Top Gun Autobody.

While this event was going on, there were amazing door prizes and giveaways such as haircuts, gift baskets, gift cards, flower arrangements, oil changes and more. Additionally, from Noon until 1 PM free burgers, hot dogs, and refreshments were available.

Among the people present were Ed Shindoll, the Broadwater County Fire Chief; Broadwater County Sheriff Nick Rauser, the Under-Sheriff Brandon Harris, and Captain Mark Wood, also of the Sheriff’s Department; Nick Scholz and Corey Scevers, both with the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, and their mascot Smokey Bear; Game Wardens Troy Hinck and Josh Leonard, who are with the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks; with the Public Health & Human Services (CPR) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were Shari Graham, a Paramedic and Sheila White, a retired EMT, and David Austin, a retired firefighter and EMT, plus the Billings Clinic Broadwater Ambulance. The Broadwater Search and Rescue unit includes Nick Rauser, Brandon Harris, Ed Shindoll, plus Jackie Smith, Daniel Truesdell, County Commissioner Lindsey Richtmyer and her husband Tory, Mike Speedy, and myself.

A general meeting for all the members of the BCSAR team is held on the last Monday of each month, and training in such items as first aid, water and ice rescue, and search techniques is given on the first Thursday of each month. Both meetings start at 6:30 PM. The SAR building is located at the corner of Pine Street and 6th Street.

Volunteers are always welcome with the BCSAR Team. The people currently serving have a wide background of abilities and talents and are in all adult age groups. The main purpose is to help other people in traumatic situations.
