Bulldog Track Team Update

The Broadwater Bulldogs traveled to Frenchtown for the first track meet of the young season on Thursday, March 28th. They were met by seven Class A, seven Class B and nine Class C schools, as well as weather from all four seasons. Each event had a junior varsity and varsity competition, which made for lots of heats and fewer limitations on team entries in events.
The Varsity Lady Bulldogs placed third as a team with 89 points behind Hamilton and Havre, while the JV team notched 15 points. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was senior Havyn Vandenacre winning both the 100-meter hurdles and the javelin throw, while also placing 2nd, 6th and 8th in the 300-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and 100-meter dash, respectively. Sophomore Kaitlyn Noyes won the triple jump while also placing 4th, 5th and 9th in the high jump, long jump and 100-meter dash, respectively. Freshman Kyla Meissner followed up her inaugural cross-country season with a win in the 3200-meter (2 mile) and finished 4th in the 1600 (1 mile). Fellow freshman Jordyn Pittman had a successful start to her high school track career in the JV runs, placing 3rd and 5th in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs.
100-meter dash: 8th Havyn Vandenacre 13.53, 9th Kaitlyn Noyes 13.57, Reese Wolfgram 14.28, Amanda Pesicka 14.65, Emily Taves 15.97, Sarah Morgan 16.43 and Scarlett McDaniel 16.70. 200-meter dash: 6th Havyn Vandenacre 27.49, Sarah Morgan 34.92 and Scarlett McDaniel 36.08. 400-meter dash: Scarlett McDaniel 1:23 and Sarah Morgan 1:24. 800-meter run: 3rd JV Jordyn Pittman 3:02 and Shalyn Sentinella 3:34. 1600-meter run: 4th Kyla Meissner 5:35, 10th Kaelyn Sangray 6:07, 5th JV Jordyn Pittman 6:52, Shalyn Sentinella 7:57 and Ashley Sanderson 10:04. 3200-meter run: 1st Kyla Meissner 12:08 and 7th Kaelyn Sangray 13:08.
The hurdle races are where the Lady Bulldogs show their speed, agility and depth placing all three Varsity hurdlers in the top 10 at both distances.
Joining Havyn are sophomores Holly Newman and Emmalin Fischer. 100-meter hurdles: 1st Havyn Vandenacre 16:12, 7th Holly Newman 18:39 and 8th Emmalin Fischer 18.48. 300-meter hurdles: 2nd Havyn Vandenacre 47.42, 4th Holly Newman and 8th Emmalin Fischer 55.91.
The core of the ladies’ throwing squad are juniors Jazlyn and Karsyn and senior Berlin, with Jazlyn notching 7th place in the discus. It was all seniors in the javelin with Havyn and Luci bringing home 1st and 7th place marks in the varsity javelin and Berlin with a 4th finish in the JV. Shot Put: Jazlyn Martin 25’6”, Berlin Korr 21’10” and Karsyn Sangray 21’4”. Discus: 7th Jazlyn Martin 101’7”, Karsyn Sangray 57’7” and Berlin Korr 53’0”. Javelin: 1st Havyn Vandenacre 127’11”, 7th Luci Horne 95’6”, Jazlyn Martin 69’7”, Karsyn Sangray 56’8” and 4th JV Berlin Korr 55’11”.
Rounding out the field events are the jumps. In addition to Kaitlyn’s finishes, Reese Wolfgram marked a third-place finish in the triple jump. High Jump: 4th Kaitlyn Noyes 4’8”. Long Jump: 5th Kaitlyn Noyes 15’9.5”, Holly Newman 14’1.5”, Reese Wolfgram 14’.25”, Emmalin Fischer 12’10.5”, Luci Horne 12’6” and Emily Taves 11’4”. Triple Jump: 1st Kaitlyn Noyes 33’11.5”, 3rd Reese Wolfgram 32’7”, Holly Newman 30’0”, Emmalin Fischer 28’9.5” and Luci Horne 27’1.5”.
The men’s varsity scored a total of 26 points for 10th place overall as a team. They were led by junior Deegan Mattson who finished 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles and 7th in the 200-meter dash. Also impressive for the Bulldogs was sophomore Marek Easter with his 4th place in the 400-meter dash and freshmen Jim Tew and Tavyn Anderson placing in both hurdle distances.
100-meter dash: Deegan Mattson 11.99, Colt Bernard 12.67, Logan Johnson 13.37, and Gavin Greene 15.44. 200-meter dash: 7th Deegan Mattson 24.80, Marek Easter 25.67, and Logan Johnson 27.49. 400-meter dash: 4th Marek Easter 55.91. 800-meter run: Gavin Greene 2.39 and Max Sellay 2:42. 1600-meter run: Nolan Flynn 5:08, Rylan Hoveland 5:30 and Max Sellay 5:44. 3200-meter run: Noland Flynn 11:28.
Again, it was the hurdle races where the Bulldogs showed their depth. Deegan was joined by a pair of freshmen speedsters, Jim Tew and Tavyn Anderson, who both placed in the top 10 at both distances. 110-meter hurdles: 3rd Deegan Mattson 17.64, 4th Jim Tew 18.59 and 8th Tavyn Anderson 20.09. 300-meter hurdles: 4th Tavyn Anderson 49.88 and 7th Jim Tew 50.64.
The largest contingent on either squad is the group of male Bulldog throwers. Shot Put: Gavin Schmele 39’3”, Tanner Bird 27’11”, Aidan Kitto 27’4”, Trace Giomi 27’0”, Crieghton Wright 21’10” and Cooper Hines 19’2”. Discus: Gavin Schmele 112’0”, Tanner Bird 86’9”, Trace Giomi 85’6”, Crieghton Wright 81’3”, Cooper Hines 78’0” and Tyson Giomi 76’9”. Javelin: Marek Easter 121’4”, Tanner Bird 96’1”, Pat Gosserd 84’8”, Aidan Kitto 80’4.5”, Trace Giomi 77’11”, Cooper Hines 52’10” and Crieghton Wright 50’9”.
The jumpers for the men’s team are all freshmen and sophomores, with Gavin Green earning points for the JV team placing 4th in the triple jump. Long Jump: Jim Tew 18’3”, Tavyn Anderson 17’11”, Marek Easter 17”11”, Logan Johnson 15”3” and Gavin Greene 14”2”. Triple Jump: 4th JV Gavin Greene 31’4”.
Neither Bulldog team had a long relay, the 4 x 400, but did have entries in the short relay, the 4 x 100. The men’s varsity squad was Marek Easter, Colt Bernard, Logan Johnson & Deegan Mattson finishing with a time of 47.76, while the JV team made up of Rylan Hoveland, Gavin Greene, Tavyn Anderson & Jim Tew finished in 54.08. The ladies’ squad of Reese Wolfgram, Luci Horne, Kaitlyn Noyes & Amanda Pesicka finished in 55.38 taking 6th place.
The Broadwater Bulldogs will next travel to Laurel for the Red Lodge Classic on Saturday, April 6th competing against up to 33 schools. Good luck Dogs!
