Not all storms come to disrupt your life; some come to clear your path.”—Unknown.

What happens when you see a storm brewing and moving into your area? Do you have a feeling of fear that comes over you as you run for cover and perhaps hide? Some of you may have even been involved in an intense storm or have seen the after-effects of the storm. During a storm, we think about protecting our space, our homes, and our personal effects as we intently watch the clouds turn dark gray and move rather quickly.

But how do you navigate and protect yourself when facing a storm in your life? Life happens, and you will be faced with uncertainties and storms. Storms can be destructive, inconvenient, and fierce by nature. You may even ask yourself what good could come from a storm. Storms can often be disguised as problems, but what if positive change is brought by the storm that serves us with opportunities?

Violent storms make a mess…as the winds pick things up, many things are displaced. Look at the storm with a new lens and as an opportunity for positive change. This is your golden opportunity to rebuild after the storm passes. You may have to unwrap the obstacles to find the possibilities, but you can build something new you have always wanted. Opportunities are on the inside, and you have to move some things around on the outside to see them. By changing your mindset with a bit of optimism, perseverance, and positivity, you can now create the fulfilling life you have always dreamed about.

Storms teach us many valuable lessons about ourselves, others, and the life we have created. Isn’t it amazing how storms humble us into learning new behavior patterns and skill sets… storms often change our behavior. While some storms are powerful, to survive, you must adjust quickly to your environment. Storms, if viewed as an opportunity for growth and not as setbacks, can change the trajectory of your future. The seasons of a storm constantly shift.

Our world has been in a fierce storm over the last couple of years. Many have adjusted their lives by rediscovering their purpose, tapping into their creativity, and developing their gifts. I am grateful for the storm that I have gone through. The storm has allowed me to pivot and adapt to my new environment. Had I not personally experienced the storm, I would be exactly where I was two and a half years ago, working the same schedule, week after week, month after month, and year after year. The time off I was offered was a rare opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery. It was a beautiful gift, as I have been able to expand and tap into my purpose.

We can learn so much from our surroundings. Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle soars above it. The eagle does not attempt to escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. We can rise above the storms by setting our minds and beliefs toward God. The storms do not have to overcome us…we can allow God’s perfect power to lift us above them. We can soar above the storm! It is not the burdens of life the way you down; it is how you handle them.

Storms are disturbances in your life that break down your foundation and test your flexibility. By re-framing the script and seeing it through a new lens, you can endure your storms as an opportunity to expand your potential and find your purpose.
