Bulldogs Take Names

Three weeks into the Fall sports season, the Broadwater Bulldogs have certainly made a name for themselves and taken others’ along the way.
Volleyball
The Lady Bulldogs nearly swept the Jefferson High Panthers during the teams’ showdown on Sept. 8.
As the first to take the court, the C-team started off running with a 25-11 win in the first set. Despite losing the second set 17-25, the team regained its momentum with a third set win of 15-12. Eager to claim the match, the Bulldogs ran away with the fourth set, finishing with a score of 15-5.
The junior varsity team entered their match with the Panthers fired up and eager to continue the winning streak. Overpowered by the Panthers, the Bulldogs dropped three consecutive sets, losing the match 11-25, 17-25 and 10-15.
Following the junior varsity team’s loss, the varsity Lady Panthers took to the court backed by the vim of a makeshift student section composed of the C-team and JV players.
In the first set, the Bulldogs and the Panthers battled with each other neck-in-neck. Led by senior Trinity Wilson, the Bulldogs claimed the first set 25-19. Without missing a single step – or point, it would seem – the Bulldogs then secured the second set 25-8.
Although the Panthers scratched back in the third set, the Bulldogs earned their win with a third set score of 25-16.
“It was nice to finally win in this gym, we haven’t won in three years,” Bulldogs Head Coach Megan Bleile told MT 43 News. “They are a big rival of ours so it was good to come out at the beginning of the season and be able to win.”
By the end of the match, Wilson led her team in both offense and defense with four aces, 16 kills, 20 digs and four blocks. Junior Emily Bird set nearly every one of the Bulldog's kills, earning 27 assists throughout the evening.
“We’ve got good leaders out there, … they’re mentally strong and they’re all playing really well together,” Bleile said.
Senior Alleigh Burdick was second in defense with 16 digs, two assists, and two aces. Junior Havyn Vandenacre followed closely behind with 10 digs and was the second most successful player in terms of offense with six kills and one ace.
In addition to her setting duties, Bird earned four kills, eight digs and one block.
Junior Reese Wolfgram excelled at the net with three kills and one block. Sophomore Cassidy Flynn helped fend off the Panthers with five digs, two blocks and one kill.
Junior Luci Horne earned one ace and six digs, followed by Senior Sienna Everett with one kill and one dig.
Football
The Broadwater Bulldogs took on the Three Forks Wolves for an all out dog fight on Friday, September 9. After a 2.5-hour-long brawl, the Bulldogs came out on top with a score of 35-6.
Seven minutes into the first quarter, senior Dawson Sweat ran the ball deep into Three Forks’ territory just to have the referee call him out of bounds inches from the end-zone. Senior Ryan Racht completed the run, bringing the score to 6-0. Neither team was able to secure a touchdown in the second quarter.
The Bulldogs entered the third quarter with a 56- yard touchdown pass by Racht to junior Jesus Garcia, followed by a touchdown by the Wolves. Only three minutes later, the Bulldogs scored yet another touchdown, complemented by a two-point conversion caught by Garcia.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs had the lead on Three Forks 20-6, but quickly increased the gap with another touchdown and two-point conversion combination. Six minutes into the final quarter, Racht threw a 45-yard touchdown pass followed by a field goal.
In total, the Bulldogs covered 462 passing yards: 247-yard passing and 215 rushing.
Cross Country
The Cross Country team traveled to Bozeman to run on the Bridger Creek Golf Course with dozens of A and AA schools.
The boys varsity team gathered a total of 549 points, landing in 20th place out of 21 teams. Meanwhile, the girls varsity team placed 14th among 17 teams.
For the boys, senior James Pitassy finished in 18:03.78 claiming 59th place. Sophomore Nolan Flynn followed behind in 104th with a time of 18:56.55.
Sophomore Teagan Martin came in third for the Bulldogs and 142nd overall in 19:54.10. Only 10 places behind Martin was senior William Lynde, finishing in 20:24.27.
Junior Aidan Easter claimed the final placing spot for the Bulldogs in 165th place, with a time of 21.03.10, chased by sophomore Ross MacDonald who finished in 21:09.05.
Senior Kayden Green was the last of the Bulldog boys to complete the 5,000-meter race. Green took 178th overall in 22:24.61.
One hundred and eighty-seven boys participated in the race.
Sophomore Memphys Meier was the first of the Lady Bulldogs to cross the finish line in 21:22.75, taking 42nd out of 156 girls.
Senior Justene Santi trailed in 78th place with a time of 22:35.52, followed by sophomore Abigail Wickens in 101st place in 23:18.44.
Sophomores Kaelyn Sangray and Scarlett McDaniel claimed the last two spots for the team in 23:47.98 and 24:56.58, respectively. Senior Sydney Forrey was the final Lady Bulldog to finish in 148th place with a time of 26:59.44.
