The Arabian Nights played at the Lodge over the weekend. Twelve of Townsend’s finest student actors performed Aladdin, Jr., based on the acclaimed 1992 Disney film. The house was sold out three performances in a row.

As the lights came up we could see the story come to life with Aladdin at the market. The story builds as Jasmine, the king’s daughter, runs away and happens into the market as well. Meanwhile, disciplined guards show up to take Aladdin, the thief, away. He finds a genie in a teapot. He falls in love with Jasmin. All problems disappear and love wins out.

The twelve actors not only gave their lines but sang their way through the entire play with able help from pianist Mrs. Carla Amundson. The play was directed by LaRinda Spencer. Laura Frazier and the STOKE sewing class did the costumes, many of which were loaned from Julie Diehl. Ron Saladay built the staging and Chris Christianson painted the background scenery. Sebastian Brandy and Dylan Fligge ran the lights with Kassima, Arabella McDaniels as Jasmine, Jaxon Fligge as the Sultan, Gracie Bingham as Jafar, Josie Brummer as Iago, Addy Mosher as the shop owner, Ava Boaz as Razoul, Aiden Mosher and Christian Osborne as guards. Several actors played more than one part.

Sponsors included Townsend Drug and Spirits, Bill and Mary Duede, Bill Kearns, Hugh van Swearingen, Full Belli Deli, Ross and Diane Johnson, Pam and Vic Sample and Reading Leaves Bookstore.
