The Broadwater County Museum, Radersburg Historical Preservation and Preserve Broadwater History all share the goal of preserving the history of Broadwater County and of making our county’s rich and colorful history available to everyone.

At https://preservebroadwaterhistory.org you can find the combined websites of all three organizations. This one website has three distinct sections for the different organizations, but all three are also interconnected to allow information to be accessible throughout the website.

Learn about the authentic buffalo robe on display at the Broadwater County Museum, read about Radersburg being the county seat of Jefferson County, and learn about the historic Johnson School House located on Hwy 284 at Confederate Gulch.

Read about our mining towns lost to time: Diamond City, Hassel and the colorfully named towns: Hog’em, Beat’em and Cheat’em. The town of Canton swallowed by the creation of Canyon Ferry Lake. Centerville deserted when the Northern Pacific Railroad created Townsend only 1 mile away.

Winston once had a hotel that seated 200 people for meals. Lombard had a popular hotel accessible only by railroad until the first road was constructed in 1930. Toston had 2 newspapers, a bank and a smelter. Learn about the history of these fascinating towns.

Last April 27, Preserve Broadwater History, Radersburg Historical Preservation Inc. and the Broadwater County History combined to sponsor and host a history field trip for the Townsend Schools 7th grade class, the class studying Montana history. The students were given a presentation on Radersburg by Linda Huth, Broadwater County Curator, at the historic Radersburg School. They were then fed lunch provided by Preserve Broadwater History. After lunch, the students walked to the Methodist Church and had a short presentation by the Radersburg Historical Preservation on the Church. The trip finished with the students’ favorite: a trip to the Radersburg Cemetery.
