Weekend Dance Well Attended
MT43 News Staff Reporter
Fans, groupies and Townsend people who like to dance gathered Saturday night to enjoy the music of Helena’s Queen City Swing Dance Band. The nine-person band kept couples moving to polkas, waltzes and jitterbug dances throughout the evening.
Queen City Swing Band is sponsored by Broadwater Community Theater (BCT). The group will be playing at the Lodge throughout the year. Their fans and followers came from Butte, Deer Lodge and Helena, complete with dancing shoes, to enjoy the two hours of dancing. During the evening, Townsend couples who were a little shy, and new to various dance steps, watched the professionals. As the evening progressed, several of the good dancers reached out to teach those interested in learning new dances.
Plans are in the works to incorporate a dance class for beginners into the program, according to BCT board member and coordinator Carla Amundson.
BCT has been actively seeking sponsorships and memberships for the 2024 year of activities. Included in the events will be the Missoula Children’s Theater in May, a children’s play during the summer and the gala Christmas dinner and play. BCT also supports two scholarships each year for Townsend school students to attend the Grand Street Theatre summer camp scheduled for July.
