“Widow Stranded”

A middle-aged woman with two children was put off the train in Townsend Thursday evening, in destitute circumstances. Marshal McCormick was called to look after the little family and took them to the Commercial hotel. The lady is from Missouri, is a widow and is on her way to Spokane where she claims to have relatives. It seems that she started west without sufficient funds and is compelled to make the journey by easy states. She was put off the train at Livingston and a purse was made up there to forward her on to Townsend.

“Doings of a Week”

Harry Childs, the big gun of the Yellowstone Park, went tearing through town Wednesday in a big yellow automobile his destination presumably being Helena. He didn’t stop to tell the Opinion man where he expected to wind up, but he ought to wind up in the police court if he goes through all towns like he did Townsend.

The little Marshman babe, who got so busy last week with poisonous tablets, is again about as frisky a kid as can be found in Townsend, well and hearty, and the chances are, will gather in more tablets that look like candy the first opportunity offers. But mama will no doubt in future see that the little mischief doesn’t get anything but real candy.

“Senior Class Play Wins Favor from Large Audience”

A cast from the large senior class of Broadwater County High School demonstrated how a comedy drama can entertain the public on Friday night of last week when they put on the Samuel French production of Aunt Tillie Goes to Town.

Bill Watkins, playing the part of Mervin Tucker, demonstrated how a male can hurriedly change costumes, and makeup and act in a double role, as well as any professional that ever played under the “spot” here. Gloria Kaponis taking the lead for the ladies was good in her role as Aunt Tillie as was also Willis Smith who was Ronald Howland in the play.

It was an all-star cast. Other stars being Dixie Reynolds, Carmen Clare, Alyce Riley, Blanche Babcock, Bill Weed, Mary Patterson and Lenore Kinney. Eddie Daniels played the part of an oriental. He was superb taking the part of One Lung.

The production staff also deserve their share of credit for the success of the play. They were Robert Mongrain, Joan McCarthy, Marvin Dallas, Kathryn Dance, Rose Broderick, Vera Sorenson and Peggy Bridgewater.

Between acts a trio from the faculty, Miss Gladys Sternhagen, piano and Harold Slater, trombone, and R.E. Menghini, saxophone entertained with instrumental selections.

There are 54 seniors. This was the first of a series of pre-commencement public appearances. The Junior Prom will be given next followed by commencement week, May 10 to 15.
