Local Nonprofits Missouri Valley Marketing and Big Sky Autism Project teamed up to host Dinner & Death on Saturday, March 2nd at The Lodge in Townsend. For those unfamiliar with murder mystery parties, they date back to the parlor games of medieval Europe. Guests assume their roles and stay in character throughout the party in an attempt to solve the murder. All guests have motives and hidden pasts. The goal is to convince everyone that you are innocent while also trying to determine the murderer’s identity. Everyone is a suspect!

Everyone was encouraged to dress in their finest stereotypical ‘Italian’ clothing and the eight starring roles were given costume suggestions for their characters. Each of the 36 dinner guests were welcomed to La Speranza the family’s Italian restaurant. At the door, tickets for prizes and fake mustaches were handed out to those who wanted them. Wine and appetizers were served along with a spaghetti dinner catered by the Mint.

The game starts with Mama Rosa, the widowed mother introducing the scene and then herself adding in the police report which detailed the murder of her husband Giuseppi ‘Pepi’ Roni. The back and forth between characters introducing themselves, dropping clues, revealing evidence, and accusing each other, in fake Italian (and French) accents, filled the evening with laughs and gasps (real and dramatized).

In addition to being a fun community evening, the event served as a fundraiser for Missouri Valley Marketing, a group of volunteers whose mission it is to promote and enhance businesses in Broadwater County. They also serve as a liaison to the Southwest Montana Tourism Board. Big Sky Autism Project is a nonprofit committed to providing access to adaptive fitness for autistic and other special needs families.
