Tune in to YouTube to listen to Kansas farmers Greg Peterson and his brothers. Their farm humor set to the likes of popular bands Smashmouth and ACDC will remove the drudgery of everyday farm chores instantly. The series, called, Peterson Farm Brothers, is and brainchild of Greg, 32, Nathan, 29 and Kendal 26. The music videos have 250 million followers. They have produced social media programs for 12 years on Youtube and on their social media pages.
Peterson, the keynote speaker at Ag Appreciation Day Dinner Saturday, made his combined experience in raising cows and corn along while using his music minor from college, sparked the crowd. A large crowd of people, some bringing their small children spent an exciting night picking out their choice of items on the extensive silent auction items. Farmers and ranchers visited with their neighbors. Candidates running for office gladhanded prospective voters.
The annual event, organized by Broadwater High School Club Future Farmers of America (FFA), raised funds for the club’s competition events around the state and the country. FFA members, assisted by the county 4-H club members, served approximately 325 persons. Everyone enjoyed chef Gayle Watson’s signature specialty of prime rib and cheesy potato dinner at the Watson Event Center on Litening Barn Road.
FFA President Mikayla Kraft commented the event was the largest they had ever had. “We are able to reach so many people in our community. We hope it helps instill the fact that agriculture should not be kept down on the farm, but is a driving force in our community. Advocates such as Greg Peterson with his YouTube videos show people where their food comes from, not from the grocery store, but through the hard-working hands of farmers and ranchers,” she explained.
Broadwater County 4-H 406 Exchange Club members were auctioned off in groups to work for whoever bid the highest for an afternoon’s labor. The highest bidders were Graymont Western Lime Plant who donated the labor to Townsend Tree Board. Other bidders were Jane Gillette, incumbent running for House District 77; Candidate for House District 77 Kyle McMurray and Warren Flynn Ranch. The money goes to pay for the exchange club’s trip to Bradford County, Pennsylvania next year and to pay for that state’s 4-H club to come here this summer.
Chairman Dallas Diehl presented the District Conservations Awards to Hahn Ranch for the Good Neighbor Award and the Agriculture Business Award went to Tiffany Simpson, Townsend Auto Parts.
