Broadwater County Commissioners accepted more than $600,000 in grant funding from the Montana Department of Transportation’s (MTDOT’s) Aeronautics division for a major reconstruction project at the city-county airport at their regular Feb. 21 meeting.
The grant – which must be met with local funds and is dependent on a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant offer – would help pay for the reconstruction of taxiways, aprons and other infrastructure at the facility.
“The fact they funded the full amount is over the top,” Commission Chair Darrel Folkvord said. “Generally, they fund a portion. We are very, very grateful.”
The grant becomes available on July 1 of this year. It represents 10 percent of the cost of planned reconstruction at the airport.
Also in the Feb. 21 meeting:
● Commissioners renewed the county’s contract with Sanitarian Megan Bullock of Gravel Bar Consulting as well as the contract with Montana’s Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS). Bullock will continue her work as a liaison between county residents and the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). She will also, under the DPHHS contract, inspect and license county retail and wholesale food sellers – including fair and Fall Fest vendor trailer parks and campgrounds, and accommodations.
● A county government review study will be up for voter approval on the June 6 primary ballot. Cities and counties are required by the state to ask voters whether to review and study the forms of local government every 10 years. If approved, five study commissioners will be elected in November.
● Commissioners accepted an amendment to the Bridger Brewing East Major Subdivision preliminary plat and Findings of Facts and Order, which will add an internal access road for Tracts 4 and 5, rather than relying on roads to be constructed in the Montana Crossroads Subdivision. If necessary, Bridger Brewing may obtain a bond to guarantee road completion.
● The commission also approved improvements to the access road on Drouillard Island in the Madison River, just west of Three Forks. Commission approval was needed because the road lies in the county floodplain.
