All-Class Montana State High School Wrestling Tournament
Billings First Interstate Arena
Broadwater High School had two competing for B/C Class State Wrestling.
Senior Blake Wellenstein, wrestling at 138. Wellensteins first bout was set against Plains wrestler, Drew Carey. Carey was seeded in the number one spot for Western coming into day 1 of the tournament. Wellenstein came off the whistle with a great shot and continued strong with a major upset win by fall at 56 seconds! Champ round two Blake lost by fall at 4 minutes and 10 seconds. This put Wellenstein into the consolation bracket where he lost by fall in the first period.
Junior, Eric Humphreys, wrestling at 170. Humphreys' first round was up against Kenan Labrie, Malta. Eric went all three rounds against Labrie losing by decision 6-9. The next round went about the same, battling back and forth with Eric never giving up the pin losing by decision 0-6. This was Humphreys' second year on the mat, and not once did he give up, battling to the bitter end. Eric plans to attend some wrestling camps over the summer to hone his skills, we cannot wait to see what the next season has in store for this kid.
