Mikayla's Vignettes

This is kind of a short article... I was asked to do an introductory article to my upcoming senior-centered vignettes, and it was way more difficult than I expected! - Mikayla Kraft

Students have bills to pay for their whole academic career. However, these are not physical bills, but sacrifices of staying in the comfort of the home, being bullied, and overall facing adversity.

Between preschool and 12th grade, students invest countless hours of their time learning core subjects and growing their knowledge in every field. Most students spend fourteen years, 8 hours a day, for about 4-5 days a week in a public school system. However, this isn’t time wasted. This is an investment for future assets. This includes basic communication skills, relationships, time management skills, critical thinking skills, and so much more.

Those who are arguably privileged enough to attend private schools, charter schools, or have a well-rounded home school may not get the vast opportunities presented to the average public school student. Out of all the opportunities that could be gained, the most rewarding is the relationships built along the way. These relationships are built through sports and club teams, partner or group assignments, and in a small town like Townsend, MT, through classes themselves. True friendships from these experiences will bring forth life-long friendships whether living in the same area or across the country.

In the spirit of the senior students’ hard work and accomplishments, the next series of articles will mostly center around the seniors. It is important to recognize these seniors who have grown up in this area for most of their lives and will move on to achieve greater things in life whether they stay in Townsend or just in the state or decide to move to another state. In addition, the community raised all of the 2024 seniors, which will give perspective on how well the tight-knit small-town community has brought up these students.

Seniors across the country will go into the real world to become the next leaders, businessmen and women, influencers, and overall achieve greater heights than they would have ever imagined. We therefore must give our due respect to these students. I cannot wait to lead this series of articles and I encourage the community to join me on this journey of exploring the lives of each of the senior students.
