Family of Jimmie Richard Bagley
Jimmie “Jim” Bagley, 81, passed away on January 16, 2024, at his home in Townsend, Montana.
Jim was born in Albany, Oregon, on August 14, 1942, the middle son of Alice Evelyn Brown and Beryl Gray Bagley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Robert Bagley.
Jim spent his childhood growing up on a farm in Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley. Although the family worked hard, they also enjoyed hunting and fishing so he developed a deep love and appreciation of the outdoors, which continued throughout his life.
He attended Oregon State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering. He started his career in that industry working for the Water Resources Board in Salem, Oregon, then later worked for an irrigation company in Madras, Oregon. In 1974, he moved to Townsend, Montana, where he worked for another irrigation company and then later created his own company, Treasure State Irrigation.
Jim carried such a deep connection with horses, and they became very central to his way of life. For decades he took great pride and joy in breeding, training, and producing high-quality registered American Quarter Horses, which have been sold throughout the United States. He creatively found a way to combine his passion for horses and the outdoors through big game hunting both for personal enjoyment and also as a paid guide.
In his later years, Jim became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He developed a strong relationship with his Savior and delighted in being of service. Most recently, Jim was called to serve in the White Sulphur Springs church as a member of the Branch Presidency there. Although severely weakened by his illness, he conducted the Sacrament Meeting on January 7th this year and bore his strong testimony to the congregation of the truths that he knew so firmly concerning the great Plan of Happiness, in which our Savior stands so preeminent. Jim truly believed in miracles due to multiple direct personal healing experiences.
The family left behind include his brother, Jerry Bagley, his daughters, Teresa Maija and Lisa Svendsen, his five grandchildren (Zachary, Levi, John, Jack, and Lily), and his two great-grandchildren (Ella and Max).
