The Broadwater community is a community that supports everyone whether they are family, friends, or practically strangers. This was especially true on Wednesday the 25th at 4 pm. The Community Room was packed with Townsend community members for a heartfelt event. Every year, seniors choose the next steps in their life journey. On Wednesday, Emily Bird, Luci Horne, and Havyn Vandenacre signed with their respective colleges to continue playing sports and in turn, grow their knowledge.

Emily Bird has officially signed with MSU Northern to play volleyball with the plan to major in Agricultural Operation Technology. MSU Northern spoke to her because of the agricultural base and the supportive community that is similar to that of Townsend. Playing volleyball at Northern will fulfill her lifelong dream, and she cannot wait to go through with this opportunity. “None of this would be possible without the support I have received from my friends, family, coaches, and community…” Emily stated, “I owe my success to my team!”

Luci Horne signed with Carroll College to play volleyball with the desire to major in mathematics. She chose Carroll “because it feels like a giant family who supports everyone in it,” she grew up around Carroll so she is already familiar with the college and the community surrounding it. It is similar to Townsend and she cannot wait to pour her talent toward Carroll College. In this next chapter of her life, she is terrified of having to learn to cook on her own, but through this experience of college (and learning how to cook) she will meet so many new people and grow her volleyball family and experiences.

Havyn Vandenacre signed with the University of Providence to compete in Track and Field. She has not chosen a major yet. Havyn chose the college because she felt like she was at home. She was welcomed from the start and had a feeling that she belonged there. She cannot wait to compete in Track at the collegiate level, “to make my dreams come true is something I can’t put into words.” Havyn cannot wait to try new things and figure out what her calling on this earth is. Even though she doesn’t know what she will do for a future career, she believes it is 'such a beautiful and special time… because this is when [she] gets to understand that [she] will never be the same person after this experience…' she cannot wait to see the person she becomes.”

These girls’ families, friends, and community members can attest to the talent and purity of these girls. They are a dear part of the Townsend community and we are sad that they will be leaving. However, another community will gain something special. This was a changing point in their lives and the future opportunities they will receive because of their upbringing, community, and talent are indescribable.
