Stacia Dahl, AARP Director of Communications

The 2023 tax season is quickly approaching, and Montana elderly and low-income residents can get their taxes done for free. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free tax preparation assistance service has volunteers training to become IRS Advanced certified tax preparers to help elderly and low-income taxpayers. An appointment can be made by calling 406-616-3080 beginning January 19, and leaving the requested information. Taxes will be prepared on Thursday and Saturday beginning February 3 through April 15, 2024, at the Rocky Mountain Development Helena Senior Center located at 200 Cruse Avenue.

The ‘Drop-off/Same Day‘ method utilized for the 2022 tax season will be used this year. It is important that the taxpayer have all pertinent information necessary to determine whether the return is within the scope of our authority and to prepare an accurate return at the time of their appointment. Once the initial review of documents is completed, the taxpayer will leave and return at a designated time in the afternoon to review their completed return and authorize e-filing of the Federal and State returns.

AARP membership is not required to receive this service.
