District Sweetgrass Showdown:
Our District FFA Competition was held in Big Timber on December 4th, 2023. Broadwater FFA members competed in the following contests:
Livestock Judging: Kaitlyn Noyes, Aiden Kitto, Spencer Braaten, Ashley Sanderson, Amanda Pesicka
Vet Science Sr: Kaitlyn Noyes, Kayla Kraft, Jacey Brunette, Amanda Pesicka, Ashley Sanderson
Floriculture: Madelyn Schritz, Grace Kroeger, Janey Brunette
After a long day of competing, here are the final standings of our teams:
Livestock Judging: Team Placing: 8th
Vet Science Sr: Team Placing: 13th
Floriculture: Team Placing: 19th
Greenhand Night:
Congratulations to all of our new Greenhand Degree recipients, Kadyn Bruins, Jacey Brunette, Janey Brunette, and recognition of Gavin Schmele joining our chapter from Fort Benton!
On the night of December 18th, 2023, these members received the first available degree for FFA members: the Greenhand Degree. FFA members enrolled in their first year of high school credit agricultural science, who have satisfactory plans for a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program and who have demonstrated their understanding of the history and purpose of the FFA may apply for their Greenhand Degree. This degree of active membership is awarded at the chapter level.
To receive a Greenhand FFA Degree, members must meet the following requirements:
* Enroll in an agricultural education program and have satisfactory plans for a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE).
* Learn and explain the FFA Creed, FFA Mission and Motto, and FFA Salute.
* Describe and explain the meaning of the FFA emblem and FFA colors.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the FFA Code of Ethics and the proper use of the FFA jacket.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the history of the organization, the chapter constitution and bylaws and the chapter Program of Activities.
* Own or have access to the Official FFA Manual and the Official FFA Student Handbook.
* Submit a written application for the Greenhand FFA Degree.
