Young Mother Crash Victim Was Townsend Native

Laysa Grewell, 22, a Townsend native living in Belgrade, was killed when the car she was driving collided head-on with another car that was going the wrong direction on Interstate 90 near Three Forks, authorities reported. The accident happened about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4. Grewell was alone in her vehicle and died at the scene, officials said.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s office said the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was a 23-year-old Bozeman man. He was hospitalized in Bozeman with non-life-threatening injuries, Gallatin County Chief Deputy Coroner Beker Cuelho said. Authorities withheld his name. Officials said he was alone and driving westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Cuelho said 911 calls began coming in before 1:30 a.m. reporting a car traveling west in the eastbound lanes on I90 from about mile marker 294 near Belgrade to the crash site about 16 miles away near mile marker 278.

In a statement on the page, Gaudenzi said Grewell, the mother of an infant girl, was on her way home from work when the collision happened. “Laysa was a mother, sister, daughter, and most of all a beloved person,” Gaudenzi wrote. “My brother and niece are going to need a lot of help as she was the sole provider of the family.”
"She loved her family to her core and would do anything for them," wrote Shaylee Gaudenzi, the sister of Grewell's boyfriend who organized the fundraiser. "She was a fighter she was a very strong woman who was trying to better herself and was working so hard on being the best she could for her and her family."
