Broadwater Community Theater (BCT) closed out its 2023 arts entertainment year with a dance at the Lodge on New Year’s Eve. The Queen City Swing Band from Helena entertained 50 attendees with a wide variety of very danceable tunes including a few polkas. The young and not-so-young crowd also enjoyed a fine assortment of “heavy hors d’oeuvres” and libations.

Owen Franks of Helena formed the band in 1992. Later Nancy Trudell revived and built up the participation in a swing band genre. The band performs everything from fox trots to jitterbug. They play for weddings, birthdays and anniversary events. The usual nine-person band plays once a month at Last Chance Tango Club of Helena where dancers enjoy salsa and tango music.

Broadwater Community Theater also announced the beginning of its 2024 fundraising campaign to continue bringing the arts- whether music, dance, drama or comedy to Broadwater County. Members of the BCT Board were introduced including LaRinda Spencer, Jim Domino, Patrick Plantenberg, Tina Homann, Nancy Marks, Carla Amundson, Anne Hall, Birdi Kribs, Pastor Mele Moa and Destiny Spencer.

Broadwater Community Theater is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization so all donations are tax-deductible. Upcoming events at the Lodge include the annual Valentine’s Day STOKE (Science, Technology, Outdoor Knowledge, and Entrepreneurship) Fun-Raiser and the annual Broadwater County High School Speech and Drama Showcase in late February or early March.

If you have any ideas of potential performances you would like to see or you would like to become a sponsor for BCT, please contact Nancy Marks at 406-266-3710.
