East Helena Woman in national baking contest
An East Helena woman is in the running to win the greatest Baker competition sponsored by Bake from Scratch magazine.
Shantel Rusher said she could win the contest presented by Buddy Valastro, better known as TV’s “Cake Boss,” if she gets enough people to vote for her online.
The person who gets the most votes gets not only to meet Valastro, but $10,000 and a two-page spot in Bake from Scratch magazine.
Rusher, who works for the Montana State Fund as a project specialist, admits she is a baker but not the greatest cook. She said online that she has been baking since she was 5 and would use the $10,000 for “seed money” to buy a food truck.
“I love to bake cookies and cupcakes,” she said in a telephone interview, adding her husband and coworkers were big fans.
She said earlier this week she is in the No. 5 spot in her groups but needs to get to the No. 1 on proceed in the running.
“I have quite a few people (supporting me), but you have to have a lot to make it to No. 1,” she said, adding the contest goes until Jan. 4.
