Knights of Columbus Boost Needy School Families

MT 43 News Staff Reporter

Superintendent of Townsend Schools Susie Hedalen worried about some of her students and their families who might not have a good Christmas. Those families would be the homeless, foster parents and military families.

She reached out to the Knights of Columbus who were able to put together Christmas dinners for 16 families in Townsend. Donna Cutshaw called each family to coordinate delivery. “ Most families accepted but one family said no, please give to someone who might need the dinner,” Cutshaw reported.

Bob’s Supermarket donated all the turkeys. Jerry Solwey, acting Treasurer of the East Helena Council raised $470 in pledges from the Helena, East Helena and Townsend Knights.

Other donations came from Reser's Foods, Mounty Moose Bakery and Matt Graham who donated all the potatoes. “The school kicked in to pay for the milk and rolls,” Hedalen said.

Hedalen pointed out the group worked with the Townsend Christmas Connection which distributes presents for needy families.
