Townsend Trees Planted for Special Purposes

This is the sixteenth of a series of articles about trees planted in Townsend and Broadwater County to honor people, special events, or for other purposes.
The Tree Board hopes people will come forward with more information on other trees planted on public as well as private property so the tree and its purpose can be documented.
73) Tilia x flavescens ‘Dropmore’, Dropmore Linden; planted in 2007 in Veterans Park in memory of Chuck Holling.
• This tree was planted on May 6, 2007, on Join Hands Day in memory of Charles "Chuck" Holling. He was an Air Force Veteran, Montana Power Lineman, and Long-Term Member of the Rotary Club. “Don’t worry, Chuck-There are no power lines around!” Planted by Family, Rotary, American Legion, Boy Scout Troops 231 and 235, and the Tree Board. The tree was paid for by the Rotary Club, Eleanor Holling, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The tree is the third tree west of the pine tree in the northeast corner of Veterans Park. The tree is in good condition.
74) Fraxinus pennsylvanica ‘Patmore’, Patmore Green Ash; planted in 2007 at 300 N. Cherry Street in memory of George Morrison.
• This tree was planted in May 2007 at 300 N. Cherry Street in memory of George Morrison, “Fuzzy the Clown”. He was a devoted Shriner. Thank you from the Broadwater County 4-H. Planted by the 4-H and Tree Board. The tree was funded by a National 4-H Council Deft, Inc. Grant. The tree is in good condition.
75) Prunus virginiana ‘Canada Red’, Canada Red Chokecherry; planted in 2008 in Veterans Park in memory of Kristian Skyberg.
• This tree was planted on May 29, 2008, in memory of Kristian Skyberg. The tree was planted by the Family and the Tree Board. The tree is on the west side of the park and the second tree is north of the alley. The tree is in good condition.
76) Picea pungens, Colorado Blue Spruce; planted in 1992 in Holloway Park in memory of Lucas Johnson.
• This tree was planted in the spring of 1992, in memory of Lucas Johnson. He passed away on October 30, 1991. The tree was donated by Gerald and Anne Knodie. The tree is the fourth tree from the northeast corner of Holloway Park. The tree is in good condition.
77) Prunus virginiana ‘Canada Red’, Canada Red Chokecherry; planted in 2007 at 204 Broadway to commemorate the grand opening of the Hardware Hank store owned by the Chamberlains.
• The tree was planted on May 5, 2007, to commemorate the grand opening of the Townsend Hardware Hank Store owned by Jim, Jeff, Peggy, and Quinn Chamberlain. The tree was planted and funded by Hardware Hank and the Tree Board. The tree is in good condition.
