Florida Man Struck, Killed on Highway 287 Near Three Forks

MT 43 News Staff Reporter

A man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the dark in the middle of Highway 287 between Toston and Three Forks.

Montana Highway Patrol authorities responded at about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22nd.

Broadwater County Sheriff Nick Rauser identified the man as David Ruymen, 54, a transient from St. Petersburg, Florida. “We will probably never really know why he was there,” Rauser said. Ruymen’s family has been notified.

The driver did not stop, the Montana Highway Patrol reported. The officers at the scene identified the vehicle as a white Ford superduty crew cab pickup pulling a single-axle box-type utility trailer traveling north toward Townsend. The trailer was missing a driver-side fender, which was found at the scene, the patrol said.

The pickup and trailer were caught on a surveillance camera at the Town Pump in Townsend at 5:10 a.m. The occupants were not located until the following day. Their identities were not released.

The incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.

Ruymen had earlier been seen at the Town Pump in Three Forks, Rauser said. The site of the incident is near mile marker 95, about 100 yards north of the entrance to the Park Trail subdivision.
