“New Flooring for the Toston Bridge”
Broadwater County Commissioners are having new flooring put on the old Missouri River bridge at Toston. The bridge was closed to traffic for a short time a few years ago after the new bridge and railroad overpass was completed. Later local residents got together and made some repairs so it could be used, and since that time, it has served the community so well that the Commissioners are putting it in shape for continued use.
The county road and bridge crew is laying the decking this week and, in several places, are replacing stringers. Some of the flooring on the west end is well enough preserved that it is being left in. Approximately 340 feet of flooring is required for the repairs, which requires 16,320 board feet of lumber. Members of the county crew are Edwin Campbell, Oral Clark, Wes Horne and Orville Zindell.
“Twenty-Six Report for Basketball”
Basketball practice got under way Tuesday at Broadwater County High School, with 26 hopefuls reporting for training. Coach Jack Gillespie and assistant Ted Anderson are pleased with the enthusiasm shown by the boys this early and hope to mold a real good team from the squad.
Only five of the boys are back from last year’s varsity squad, but they have 12 players who saw action on the B squad last year. The five returning lettermen are Fred Moudree, Tim Evans, Joe Jepson, Dave Kimpton and Dale Antonich.
Those coming up from the B squad include Harold Toombs, John Boster, Lary and Gary Richtmyer, Carl Sherwood, Craig Biggs, Victor Sample, Tim Ragen, John Flynn, Keith Kirscher, Scott Davis and Gary Adams.
In addition to the above boys, they have Lance Davis, Dave Cameron, Mike Broderick, Mike McElravy, Mike Longacre, George Conrad, Dan Herbst, Ted Baker and Rob Ulmer out to compete for a place on the squad.
Coach Gillespie says they have a full 20 game schedule for the 1967-1968 season. The first game will be the Thanksgiving tournament to be held at the BCHS gym, with the same teams as last year entered, Whitehall, White Sulphur Springs and Boulder, with the Bulldogs as hosts.
