Vivian Boaz For City Council Ward III
Hello Townsend,
My name is Vivian Boaz and I am running for a City Council seat in Ward 3. My family and I are relatively new to Townsend and moved here about 6 years ago.
We discovered Townsend on a visit with some family friends and instantly fell in love with the community and its people. Our home is on South Cedar and was built sometime around 1893 by Senator Charles Amos Whipple. It is also about a block from the Volunteer Fire Dept., which I joined two months after moving into our home.
My husband is a retired ARMY Officer and stays busy parenting our daughter or volunteering with the American Legion.
Apart from volunteer work, I have a full-time job caring for the elderly in our community at Silver Springs Assisted Living Facility.
Honestly, I never thought I would run for a position to be a city councilman. After attending several Council meetings, I recognized a shortfall of people willing to help manage our city and after a discussion with my family decided to run. I feel much of my past education and job experience will be an asset to serving the people of this community.
I dropped out of high school and put myself through college. I majored in nursing and graduated from Cuesta College with a degree in Behavioral Sciences and Mathematics. I spent some of my early employment years working for the Monterey County Parks Dept. and The Dept. of Defense as a Lifeguard and Aid. I funded my education by working in restaurant and catering businesses organizing and planning local events such as festivals, winery dinners, and weddings.
Before moving to Townsend my husband and I owned and operated our own drop-off catering service. Many of our clients were national and international companies in the pharmaceutical and construction management industry. Currently, I am in charge of the kitchen and dietary needs of the residents at Silver Springs. Some of my job duties include staff scheduling, facility maintenance, food preparation, medication management, resident care, and supply ordering.
Since I moved to Townsend, I have seen a lot of change and growth happening in our community. I am concerned about the impacts the growth will have on our infrastructure and hope to meet those needs. As a former business owner, I understand the importance of small businesses in town and the seasonal economic impacts they experience. I would like to help revitalize and support our existing businesses and attract more into our area.
I have walked the streets and asked people around Townsend about their concerns and priorities regarding the city. Many have expressed the need for better communication about ordinance notification for renters and new homeowners. Some are concerned about the utility fee increases because they are on fixed incomes. Others struggle with the lack of affordable housing and storefront rental availability.
I do have ideas on how to tackle some of these issues moving forward and would love to hear more community feedback.
Please feel free to email me at MomtanaBoaz@gmail.com or give me a ring at (406) 266-1261. I already enjoy serving the city of Townsend through my volunteer work and I hope to earn your vote and serve you well as a City Councilman.
Thank You.
