On September 26th, 2023, we took a team consisting of Spencer Braaten, Aiden Kitto, Amanda Pesicka and Ashley Sanderson to the Ruby Valley Invitational for our Livestock Evaluation competition. This included classes of Feeder Hogs, Market Hogs, Market Lambs, Targhee Ewes, Angus Bulls (EPDs), Angus Heifers, Feeder Steers, and Breeding Does. Reason presentations were given for the Angus Bulls and Market Hog classes. Additionally, this contest included a knowledge test and equipment identification.
For our team to qualify for the State Livestock Evaluation, we had to receive 8th place or better in our district. Overall, our team ended up with 5th in the competition and 3rd in our district. Individually out of 184 participants Amanda Pesiscka received 3rd, Kaitlyn Noyes received 12th, Spencer Braaten received 45th, Aiden Kitto received 46th, and Ashley Sanderson received 77th. A very positive outcome for our team, with the additional excitement of qualifying for the upcoming State FFA Convention in April 2024!
Fall Fest Funnel Cakes:
From September 29th - October 1st, Townsend Rotary’s Fall Fest took place at Heritage Park. Live music blared and a multitude of vendors lined every nook and corner of the street and park. One of these vendors was the Funnel Cake booth, run by Broadwater FFA! Our menu included delicious funnel cakes and hot drinks like coffee, hot chocolate, and apple cider.
The funds raised from our booth added up to a total of just under $6000 for the weekend. We are thankful to work with the Townsend Rotary who purchases the supplies and stores all the equipment for the booth. After expenses, Broadwater FFA will bring in 2/3rds of the profits, which will go toward events such as NILE in October, Ag Day sponsored by John Deere in November, District Events in December, January, and February, and the State FFA Convention in April.
Special thanks to Hugh Braaten, Aaron Loughery, Kelly Morrow, Rick Naber, Karen Noyes, Lena Parr, and Stacy Sommer for the adult help in the booth. We could not have pulled off the best funnel cake booth to date without your help.
Thank you to all of our community and others who stopped by our booth to support us and students who helped keep it running smoothly!
