Cross Country - Week 6

It was certainly a good day to have a good day!

Last Friday, September 29th was the Headwater XC Invitational hosted by the Three Forks Wolves. A beautiful flat course on a gorgeous, crisp morning made for lightning-fast times by your Broadwater Bulldogs. The entire team had their personal best times (PR) or season best times (SR); half of the team improved by more than a minute!

Kyla Meissner (19:57 PR) could not help but smile crossing the finish line in first place in the Women’s Varsity race. Kaelyn Sangray (21:03 PR) continued her season-long assault on each course in 8th and Abby Wickens (22:28 PR), who has gotten faster each week this season was 16th.

The Varsity Men’s team took 4th place collectively with Nolan Flynn (17:37 PR) leading the way in 7th place. Aidan Easter (18:53 PR) clocked his first-ever time sub 19 minutes in the 25th, while Connor Lamb (19:13 PR) was next in the 29th. The Bulldogs were coming in one after the other with Gavin Green (19:55 PR) in 33rd, Rylan Hoveland (20:01 PR) in 35th, Kaden Bruins (20:29 SR) in 39th, and Ross McDonald (21:50 SR) in 47th. The Men’s Varsity shortened their times collectively by 5 minutes and 26 seconds.

The Junior Varsity Men and Women took to the course together with Luke Tullos (21:53 PR) in 12th, Wyatt Coker (24:03 SR) in 21st, and Keaton Cavasos (25:08 PR) in 23rd for the Men. Scarlett McDaniel (23:51 PR) placed 4th for the Ladies with teammate Grace Kroeger (25:18 PR) right behind in 5th. Grace took an amazing 2:12 off her previous personal best time.

As always, the high school hoofers ran a 5K (3.1 mile) course. The middle schoolers usually race different distances based on how easily the course can be adapted while maintaining the same start/finish lines.

In Three Forks, that means a course of 2 miles, which is the longest they will face this season. The junior high boys and girls also ran simultaneously.

The boys took third place as a team with Trey Coker (14:23) and Sawyer Pitman (14:24) placing 14th and 15th, respectively. Following them were Dylan Pittman (17:19) in 22nd, Everett Kirksey (17:45) in 23rd, and Jayden Flynn (21:09) in 25th. The girls’ race was won by Elaine MacDonald (13:48) leading her team to a collective fourth-place finish.

Completing the team were Tana Santi (16:04) in 19th, Kensley Sangray (16:06) in 20th, Kathryn Six (16:26) in 22nd, Addi Mosher (17:23) in 29th, Lydia Brakefield (17:57) in 33rd, Courtney Webber (18:58) in 40th, Madison Vogl (19:48) in 42nd, Anna Busscher (21:04) in 47th, Ella Tullos (23:09) in 50th, Kaedyn Budde (23:38) in 52nd, and Aspen Bantz (24:47) in 54th.

By the time you read this, the Varsity runners will have competed on Thursday, October 5th at the Capital City 7 of 7 Meet, a day-long event with a unique format where there are nine separate races; more details in next week’s roundup. The Junior High team will travel to Boulder that same day for the always rugged Jefferson Race. Mark your calendars for the last regular season meet, which is the home course, the Rusty Raisland Invitational on October 14th.
