Pop Up Pantry was a Success

The Pop-Up Pantry fundraiser was a great success!
This new community culinary program will be a tremendous asset to Townsend and Broadwater County. The Pop-Up Pantry will partner with a well-known non-profit, Science, Technology, Outdoor Activity, Knowledge, Entrepreneurship (STOKE), a youth empowerment organization since 2019. The STOKE youth cooking program and the Pop-Up Pantry will now provide youth the opportunity to learn from a true professional chef.
Heather Hatwan, our new chef, has many years of master-level cooking, catering, and hospitality experience, and she is ready to give back to the community. Her skills were on display Friday evening with BBQ ribs, pulled pork and brisket along with potato salad, cole slaw, tomato salad, green beans, and sauteed carrots and parsnips in a spicy honey sauce. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Chris and Drew Hettinger and Lynette and Dwight Dyke for their generous donations of produce and delicious garlic bread.
Heather also provides cooking classes through her new business, Big Sky Culinary Classes, which offers many options to expand your personal cookbook, saving you money and time while having fun. For more information contact Heather at bigskyculinaryclasses@gmail.com
The Pop-Up Pantry is the brainchild of STOKE board member Tina Homann. For starters, the pantry will provide FREE dinners on Friday evenings. The STOKE cooking class will prepare and cook meals under Heather’s instruction in the Lodge of Townsend’s Commercial kitchen. As with all our programs, STOKE is able to provide this community service through generous donations and several grants. And with that, here’s a BIG SHOUT OUT to Renee Bauer, Director of Family Promise, for providing $1000.00 in seed money for the start-up of this program, and to Heather Hatwan for her expertise, support and time in making this fundraiser a success!
A special Thank You to Nykia Mondragon and Logan Barkhurst, original sewing program participants (led by Laura Frazier). These girls helped prepare the food, serve our guests, and clean after the fundraiser. They contributed to the christening of our Pop-Up Pantry project!
And thank you to all those who attended and shared their ideas and provided financial support.
Look out for a sandwich board outside the pantry showing the menu for each week.
