Letter to the Editor
Author: Nick Rauser

Dear Editor/Broadwater County Voters,

I am writing my final letter to the editor for this election. I want to thank each and every person that has donated, reached out, and helped spread the word. I am humbled by all the support.

I have been in Law Enforcement for 14 years. I started my career in the Broadwater County Detention Center. I worked for the Meagher County Sheriff’s Office for five years, and then the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for three years. In 2017, my family and I decided to come back home and give back to the community that helped raise me. I started out as a Deputy in 2017. In the Spring of 2018, I was promoted to Sergeant of Patrol. Later that year I took over our Detective duties while still the Sergeant of Patrol. In December of 2019, I was promoted to Captain, where I currently am positioned. I have been a Coroner since 2010. I hold my Coroner Basic, Law Enforcement Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory and Command Certificates. I have dedicated my career to giving back to the communities I had the pleasure of serving. I truly believe that experience should matter.

I was born and raised here in Townsend. I graduated from Broadwater High School in 2004. I then went to College in Kalispell where I graduated with an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. I want every person in Broadwater County to know that I will do my best to continue to provide Law Enforcement services to everyone. Law Enforcement has been a family history for me. My Great Grandfather George Kieckbush was a Deputy and the Sheriff in Broadwater County from 1934 to 1950.

Some things I would like to work on if I am elected are providing more law enforcement services to the North and South ends of Broadwater County. They are growing at a rapid pace, and we need to find solutions to provide Deputies to those ends of the County. I understand that there is a rising drug problem that needs to be addressed. I am hoping to find solutions to keeping a healthy work environment in the Sheriff’s Office and work on retention. When one or two employees quit it makes it very hard to focus on these issues. Lastly, I would like to start the lunch with a cop program and work on providing a healthy relationship with the youth in the County. I had the pleasure to assist with coaching junior high football these last couple of months and I had a great time coaching these kids. I also had the pleasure of coaching Tball last spring. We need to work on the relationship between youth and law enforcement. I want them to know that we are always there to help.

I hope that I have gained your trust and vote with the election coming up very soon.

Thank You
