Moose on the Move
Fall finds moose on the move from the foothills to the wildlife management area next to Highway 287. A semi grazed a calf moose knocking the animal into an oncoming car. The animal was killed outright. The drivers were not injured but the car was badly damaged, according to Sheriff Meehan. The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. “The darkness that time of day limits drivers’ ability to see an animal until their car is right on top of it,” he explained.
Meehan cautioned drivers to be extra careful between the Lake View Manor subdivision on Highway 287 and the river bridge this time of year. In the last two years, three bull moose have been hit between mile markers 75 and 76 on that highway, he said.
