Lions Purchase Vision Screening Machine

Earlier this year the Broadwater County Lions and White Sulphur Springs Lions partnered to purchase an Optix vision screening machine. An anonymous donation received by the Broadwater County Lions funded a portion of the purchase with the two clubs splitting the remaining cost. A shortage of computer chips delayed delivery of the machine until late August.
The machine measures various elements in the subject’s eyes. If potential abnormalities are detected, it is recommended the subject see an eye specialist for diagnostic testing. It can detect potential eye problems in individuals as young as six months old.
Lion members from Townsend, White Sulphur Springs and Helena recently went through an afternoon of training to learn how to use the machine.
The Broadwater County Lions give a huge thank you to the anonymous person for the grant. The grant also provided funding for a new hearing screening machine so the 40-plus-year-old machine could be retired.
Both machines will be in use at an October screening clinic at the Townsend school.
