Rocky’s Agency on Aging Visits Townsend
On August 15, Rocky’s (RMDC) Agency on Aging visited the Townsend Sr. Center. Michelle Mathot (RMDC Education and Outreach Coordinator) along with Anita Linden (Program Coordinator) and Justin Belgarde (Program Coordinator) came to Townsend to share information about Rocky’s services for Senior Citizens.
Michelle and Anita spoke to the Townsend area Seniors about Medicare services and about Medicare Fraud. Michelle warned the seniors that Medicare and Social Security will NEVER call you on the phone, or text or email you. She warned that you should never answer any call from a number that you don’t already know. If someone actually needs to call you, they will leave a voice message.
She also noted a monthly publication from The Senior Medical Patrol (SMP) that details various types of Medicare fraud and how to avoid them. Rocky’s Agency on Aging provides the monthly newsletter to the Townsend Senior Center. Anyone can drop by and get a copy – they are free.
Michelle, Anita and Justin had lunch with the seniors. Each one sat at a different table and enjoyed an excellent lunch while speaking with the Seniors. They explained the services that Rocky’s Agency on Aging provides and listened to what the Seniors had to say about the services they feel they need.
Led by Michelle Mathot, Rocky will be doing a multi-week Stepping on Falls Prevention class in Helena. The Stepping On program can help you avoid a dangerous and costly fall. Michelle would also like to find a local person to be a facilitator of the Stepping On program in Townsend. If you are interested in attending the Stepping on Falls Prevention class or if you are interested in becoming a local facilitator of the program, contact Michelle Mathot at 406-441-3985 or email her at mmathot@rmdc.net.
A reporter from KTVH television in Helena also attended the event in Townsend. She did a nice interview with Michelle about Rocky’s Agency on Aging: “So, what the Agency on Aging actually does, is they are a resource center for seniors. We serve those 60 and over and adults with disabilities,” Michele Mathot the Education and Outreach Coordinator for Rocky’s Agency on Aging said.
The agency can help find community resources and connect people to information and services in the counties they serve.
They serve Broadwater, Gallatin, Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Meagher, and Park counties.”
