Broadwater Western Days Kid's Rodeo

Taylor Cartwright, carrying the American Flag, and Ella Begger, carrying the Montana Flag, started off each performance of the 60th Anniversary of the Broadwater County Rodeo and Fair that occurred between Thursday, August 3rd and Sunday, August 6th. Both girls competed in Broadwater Western Days Kid's Rodeo on August 3rd in the 13-17 age groups of Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Parent/Child Team Roping, and Barrel Racing events. Taylor was First in Pole Bending, Breakaway, and Barrel Racing, and came in Third place in Goat Tying. She also won the Girl's All-Around award. Ella placed First in Goat Tying and Third with Clint Begger in the Parent/Child Team Roping event. She lives here in Townsend.
In July Ella won the 2023 National High School Finals Rodeo championship in Pole Bending, which was held in Gillette, Wyoming. Besides a belt buckle, she won a saddle, which she proudly displayed as she rode around the arena in a truck driven by and with Townsend Tire employees. Her saddle has the words "2023 World Champion Pole Bender" written on it. Congratulations, Ella.
Prior to the start of the adult rodeo on Friday night, there was a Stick Rodeo for kids ages 3 and 4; 5 and 6, and 7 and 8. Each child had a stick horse which he or she had to "ride" around three barrels, similar to Barrel Racing. This was really fun to watch.
One thing that is always impressive at rodeos is that a prayer is given for the riders and the livestock either just before or after the National Anthem is sung. Normally you don't have prayers at the beginning of other sports.
