Pie Eating Contest

The 2023 Fair brought a bevy of hungry participants in the first pie-eating contest that this reporter can remember, being here from 2006. The hungry eaters, wishing for a first-place prize of $25 in each age group, waited their turn, semi-patiently.

The first group, aged 5-10 ate their fill of an Oreo/chocolate pudding with a heaping pile of whipped cream; with Micaiah Hudspeth (10) taking first place. The 11-14 class had a chocolate cream pie, again piled with whipped cream; with Blake Roberts (11) going out of his way to inhale his prize. The 15-19 group was served cherry pie, with the afore-mentioned pile of whipped cream. Aiden Kitto (15) won that one.

Last, but not least, the adults (19+) had their turn with an apple pie (one more time, piled high with whipped cream). The participants were aged 30 to 70; with the 41-year-old Dave Hudspeth going away with the win. Maybe eating is in the genes as there were two Hudspeth winners.

Taylor Shapp and Jessica Erickson were the overseers of this competition, sponsored by the Broadwater Fair Committee. This is a competition hoping to be an annual event.
