Broadwater County sure knows how to put on a parade. It must be the organizer’s 60 years of experience that makes people come out in droves to watch the 4-H floats, antique cars and catch mountains of candy.

Sunday, August 6th the hour-long parade on Broadway came off with only one hitch: a tire went flat on the Gand Marshalls’ wagon. Chuck and Carole Plymale and family took it all in stride as they waited by the Power Townsend building for someone to come fix the tire. Thirty- two groups registered for prizes. Many participants do not register, according to coordinator Kathy Toombs.

Two groups of Masons and Shriners provided lots of entertainment with their mini cars. House Representative Julie Dooling added a political flavor to the day. Emergency Services vehicles brought up the end as did Montana National Guard vehicles. National Guard members manned a recruiting table after the parade to interest people in joining.

Parade Marshall Shawn Cartwright made sure to direct the parade to Oak Street so the nursing home residents might have a front-row seat. All children actively involved in the parade under the age of 12 received free tickets to the afternoon rodeo at the fairgrounds.

Prize winners of the five categories, in first, second and third place were as follows: Cowboy Costume Riders: Bird Family Children, Kindle VanDyken and Julie Dooling; Drill Teams: Bozeman Saddlelites; Organizations: Toston Blue Ribbon 4-H Club, Old Baldy 4-H Club and Townsend Little Guy Wrestling; Commercial: Birdi Kribs, Billings Clinic Broadwater and Stateline Construction; Individuals: Ruel Richtmyer and Tameron Harris, Tim Meagher; Antiques: John Moos, Glenn VanZee (orange car) and Jim Beck.
