A crowd of nearly 30 people gathered at Reading Leaves Bookstore Wednesday evening to listen to and ask questions of three-time NYT Bestselling Author Jamie Ford. Mr. Ford currently has four published novels and many other published compilations. He has written many genres, but his four novels are historical fiction, the newest incorporating some speculative fiction as well.
Mr. Ford is currently on tour promoting The Many Daughters of Afong Moy, published earlier this year. Townsend was his 28th stop in 6 weeks! He has recently appeared on the Today Show where Many Daughters was chosen as a Read With Jenna book club pick. After a short rest at home in Great Falls, he will resume traveling around the country to entertain crowds talking about his novel.
Mr. Ford is a very engaging and humorous storyteller. He began the evening relaying his experiences about becoming 'homework' to teens around the world when his novel, The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet became a summer reading requirement, to the mortification of his own (then) teenagers. He read some of the anguished Tweets from teenagers looking for Sparks Notes, and newly hooked reluctant readers and had the crowd laughing for most of the night.
After sharing his experiences with the crowd and reading a short cliffhanger from his current novel, Mr. Ford answered questions and ended with signing books and speaking with event-goers individually. With three of his four novels being NYT Bestsellers and top Indie Next List picks, it is no surprise that two of them are in varying stages of being prepared for film and stage. Jamie Ford is definitely a local author you don't want to miss!
