Broadwater Fair: Creating a Ring

The first entertainment of the 2023 Broadwater Fair & Rodeo moved from the tent to inside the Commercial Building, because of the weather.

That didn’t stop these 18 ladies from sitting down to make their own rings. They each paid $75 to fashion a piece of jewelry to keep and admire; knowing that they did it themselves.

Jessica Hanson, owner of J Rock Jewelry, 321 Broadway (suite B) was the instructor and was always available for any help needed.

The steps are laid out here:

* Each lady cut their band to the right size.

* They each chose a stone, white, pink or blue.

* They had the opportunity to personalize the band more by stamping it if they wished.

* Then, they shaped the band using a torch and mandrel, getting it round. Then they filed the rough spots and set the bezel (the piece holding the stone) using a torch. Off to the ‘pickle pot” to remove all oxidation.

* They then set the stone using a wooden ring clamp; and tapped the arms of the bezel to hold the stone.

* The last step was polishing the band using a dish scratcher material.

They were all satisfied with how their rings came out; much worthy of the few hours they spent.

Jessica was so happy with the results, that she will do more of these classes. If you are interested in the methods used and are wanting to craft something that you and others can admire forever; please call Jessica at 406-671-1543 to discover when her next class is scheduled.
