1939

“Dr. McElwee Joins Local Clinic Staff”

Dr. Wm. R. McElwee took his place as a member of the Broadwater clinic and hospital staff on Tuesday of this week, coming here from Dillon. He replaces Dr. W. Peterson who left the clinic to take post-graduate work at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. McElwee is a graduate of the Rush medical school of Chicago and took post graduate work at the Los Angeles general hospital and the United States Marine hospital in Boston.

“Crow Creek News”

Harry Allen, Bob Allen and Miss Ann Allen spent the weekend in Butte. Miss Helen Williams, who has been a guest at the Allen home for a week, accompanied them to her home there.

Mrs. Paul Ragen of Townsend and Mrs. Bud Johnson of Sunburst, who is visiting relatives and friends in Townsend, visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Parker.

Miss Nydegger, who taught the Riverside school last year, has been engaged as teacher at Round Butte for the coming year.

1950

“Geo. Lots Opens Music Store n Townsend”

Planning to operate in the Borg and Simons Electric store, Geo. Lots today is placing his stock and preparing to open the Broadwater Record and Music shop. He will handle radio players and a complete line of records, phonograph accessories, radios and incidentals connected with a music store.

He will share the building already occupied by Borg and Simons, electricians which is located across the street from the J.G. Braley Drug store.

Mr. Lots has been employed by Mr. Braley since coming to Townsend to make his home. Mr. Braley has closed out his record business to Mr. Lots.

“Crow Creek News”

Mrs. Elaine Taylor and daughter, Roena, have returned from a visit in Ogden, Utah. They were met in Butte by her mother, Mrs. Chester Nelson, Mrs. Douglas Fell, Mrs. Don Scoffield and Mrs. Chester Scoffield.

Recent visitors at the Kenneth Kitto home included Mr. and Mrs. Al Bellows, Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Heeb of Bozeman and Mrs. Lon Heeb of Hermossa Beach Calif.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Webb and family and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Adams and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Webb and son, Bill, enjoyed the day, Sunday, at Virginia City.

1961

“Sheridan Team Wins Townsend All Star Tourney”

Sheridan’s Vigilante all stars won first place in the Townsend little league All Star Tournament last weekend by trouncing boulder 20 to 7 Saturday afternoon and then eked out a 5 to 4 win over East Helena in the championship game Sunday afternoon. This same team won the tournament held at Sheridan the week before.

Townsend’s entry placed third in the tourney by defeating Boulder 16 to 0 in the first game Sunday afternoon. Feature of this game was Brad Tarrant’s pitching when he struck out all nine batters to face him in the last three innings. In the first inning Tarrant also blasted a bases loaded homer to start Townsend’s scoring spree.

Townsend’s chance for first place was spoiled by East Helena Saturday when they lost a thriller to the visitors 3 to 2 in seven innings.

“Jim Webb to Emcee Banquet at 4-H Congress”

Delegates from Broadwater County will attend the annual 4-H Congress at Bozeman next week, August 21-25, accompanied by leaders Mrs. Earl Webb and Wayne Gibson, county agent.

Jim Webb has been selected by officers of the convention to act as master of ceremonies at the main banquet Thursday evening, which is one of the highest honors in connection with the Congress. Jim is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Webb of the Crow Creek Valley.

1967

“Local News”

Mrs. E.L. Hunsaker took her son, Sgt. Cecil Hunsaker to Helena Friday where he took a plane to Fort Erwin, Calif. Cecil had spent a 45-day furlough here with his parents after returning from Vietnam.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Quist and daughter, Barbara, visited Mrs. Sig Anders last week. Mr. Quist is a nephew of Mrs. Anders. They were on vacation and were enroute to visit in Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Riis of Winston and Kenny McCray of Westminster, Calif., called on Annie Bisby Sunday.

Roddy Gustine left for his home at York Wednesday after spending the past ten days with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lots and grandmother, Mrs. Marguerite Petersen.

1978

“Radersburg News”

Dinner guests at the George Hough home on Wednesday were Chuck and Ellie Holling of Townsend. After dinner, the Hollings, Gays and Houghs enjoyed an evening of cards.

Pearl Barraugh, Barbara Wagomon and her granddaughter, Jamie, arrived with a big lemon pie, to spend the afternoon and have dinner with the George Houghs on Wednesday.

Hugh and Dove Broderick made a business trip to Bozeman last Thursday. Coming home, they drove on to Townsend and had dinner at the Fireside Lounge before returning to the Burg.

Last Friday Mrs. R.E. Davis of Willow Creek took Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ralls to dinner at the Fireside Lounge. The occasion to celebrate Jean’s birthday.

Jane Bottler and Lola Ricketts attended the Blood Pressure Clinic and pot luck at the Senior Center on Monday. Tillie Williams substituted for the county health nurse, Pat Nelson. Thirty-four went through the 2-hour clinic.

I have not been able to contact all of the people in Radersburg this week. The party lines make it hard to reach everyone and it is next to impossible to get the code numbers one has to use.
