St. Peter’s Health Update for Patients on Transition to Epic and MyChart

Jacquelyn Tescher

On June 10, 2023, St. Peter’s Health transitioned to a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) called Epic. Transitioning to a new electronic health record is a massive undertaking for any health system, impacting virtually every corner of the organization, from staffing and clinical operations to patient experience. While we’ve worked hard for over a year to train our teams, anticipate needs and optimize the system to work best for our patients, the leadership team at St. Peter’s recognizes this transition creates a temporary disruption for some of our patients. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and want to share how we are working to complete the transition as quickly as possible.

Most of the feedback we’ve received from our community and patients relates to access to health record information in MyChart and the timeliness of scheduling appointments and processing referrals. We recently deployed additional resources to speed up the transition of this information into our new system as quickly as possible.

We want to thank our community for your continued feedback regarding these matters, as it’s helping us understand your experience with this change and where we need to prioritize our efforts. In the coming days to weeks, we plan to share another update on the transition and what you can expect when you visit St. Peter’s and interact with us online.

The St. Peter’s leadership team would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to our staff, who are working incredibly hard to learn and operate in a new system as well as reconcile information from previous databases. We’d also like to extend our appreciation to our onsite experts and partners at SCL/Intermountain Health, who are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us to make this transition as efficient as possible. Our Epic partners, who work with health systems across the globe on EHR conversions, believe that our transition to Epic has been incredibly successful but we recognize that there is work to do to make this the best possible experience for our patients.
