Nostalgia hits you front and center when you stand on Broadway Street as the flag passes by for the 60th Rodeo Parade coming up Sunday, August 6th. The parade will begins at noon. It has been a tradition for Broadwater County since the beginning of the rodeo in 1963 when Linda Wallace (White) won Townsend Rodeo Queen and parade organizer Boyd Iverson led the horseback riders in the lineup. Ranchers, Chuck and Carole Plymale, will be grand marshals. Chuck, raised in Broadwater County by an historic family, is a member of the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame. Carole taught school at Cecelia Hazelton Elementary School. She is now retired and working on the family ranch on Duck Creek near Highway 284.
This year’s parade theme is “Celebrating 60 Years of Tradition.” This year’s categories are animal-drawn carriages, drill teams, cowboy riders or animal leaders and antique vehicles. individual, commercial and organizations will each have a category, according to Kathy Toombs, parade coordinator.
All floats, vehicles, scooters, should meet at Heritage Park on South Pine Street to line up. To qualify for a parade award, each entry must sign up in advance at Massa Park on Broadway.
Parade Director Shawn Cartwright will help line up horseback riders, National Guard vehicles, farm machinery, trucks, Fire and Emergency vehicles and individuals running for office on North Pine Street, just off Broadway.
